Education and Life Experience

The Tangkou Community Project welcomes the contribution and enthusiasm of both local and overseas volunteers of all ages and provides university students with fun and extremely beneficial internships and work placement programs.
Our enthusiastic and knowledgeable team will help you to understand and appreciate the alluring features of the regions architecture (such as the Diaolous). the history of the Overseas Chinese and the unique circumstances that led to the special lifestyles and stories of that time from both an overseas and local perspective.

You will also have a chance to experience in an interactive way the village life and to enjoy the beautiful and relaxing landscape and scenery of the many historical villages. This is achieved in multiple ways through lectures, group work, cycling, site visits, meeting local villagers, visiting local markets, farming, cooking and hands on experience of arts and crafts with local experts.

We provide displays, education and advocacy and are involved in restoration and rehabilitation of local culture and heritage. We carry out research and put into practice a combination of experimental projects, identifying heritage values, community involvement, helping you to understand what you see and providing you with knowledge surrounding preservation of both the tangible and intangible cultural heritage and traditions.


Research and Study

Students and volunteers can contribute to and learn from the Tangkou Community Project in a variety of meaningful and sustainable ways.You can visit and live in the TK-SPACE for a carefully arranged period of time, learning through interactive experience about local life and Overseas Chinese lifestyle, protection of the environment and the cultural heritage of the region. This helps young people to develop important life skills and appreciate an overseas hometown feeling. It also helps young people understand the importance of heritage conservation.

We run many summer camps and winter camps throughout the year and can offer various internship and work placement programs for university students and overseas visitors according to their needs. Research, study and work experience in many subject areas are available from Marketing, PR and Business Development, Architecture, Town Planning, Sociology, Anthropology, Politics, Agriculture to Archeology and Tourism.

We have worked with Stanford University, the University of British Columbia, the University of Virginia, the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong City University, Jinan University and many other high schools students from China and overseas.
